Castleford Holding Try Outs For U-8 Players

Posted by Jesus Garcia on May 30 2012 at 05:00PM PDT
On Friday, May 18, 2012, the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL) announced
the introduction of an Under 8 (U8) Travel Soccer Program to commence this
Fall 2012. That is, players entering 2nd Grade in Fall 2012 or born between
August 1, 2004 and July 31, 2005 have a choice between three Programs this
coming Fall:
1) Travel Soccer with Castleford Rovers Soccer Club ($825.00*)
2) Bedford Youth Soccer Club Pre-Travel ($550.00*)
3) Bedford Youth Soccer Club In-House ($350.00*)
* Proposed Fall 2012 / Spring 2013 Training Fees
CASTLEFORD ROVERS SOCCER CLUB:
Castleford Rovers Soccer Club is a joint venture between Armonk United and
Bedford Youth Soccer Clubs. The two organizations have joined forces to
offer the most number of kids the opportunity to play travel soccer in the
best environment possible. The primary goal of Castleford, which formed in
2010, is to ensure that we have sustainable age and skill-based competitive
teams that offer our players the best environment to develop toward their
desired goals. After years of watching teams fold, pairing of mismatched
players with greatly different skills, intensities or desires, Castleford was
created to help keep more kids playing travel soccer at a local and
appropriate level.
CASTLEFORD ROVERS SC OVERVIEW:
-- 25 teams/350 players this year 2011-2012.
-- U8 teams (if formed) will be geographically based:
one boys team and one girls team from each town
-- U9 and U10 teams are geographically based (except where necessary to field
team)
-- U11+ teams are mixed with players from both communities
-- Teams are professionally coached.
-- Each team has a team parent manager, whose role is solely
administrative, chosen by the Castleford Rovers SC management team
CASTLEFORD ROVERS SC TRAVEL SOCCER COMMITTMENT:
-- Fall AND Spring Mandatory Commitment
-- TWO MANDATORY practices during the week. Practice days are assigned by
the Castleford Rovers SC management team. Religious school schedules and
other town sports are taken into consideration when determining practice
days.
-- Games are on Sunday. Game schedules are determined by the WYSL (out of
our control).
-- Winter training - once a week - is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.
2012 Fall /2013 Spring COSTS = $825 and INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
-- Fall/Spring coaching fees- 2 practices and one game per week
-- 1 team tournament
-- WYSL registration fees
-- Club administrative, insurance and equipment costs
-- (Winter training, additional tournaments, equipment, and uniform costs
are additional costs)
UNIFORMS:
-- Next year U8 players in the Castleford Rovers SC will have to purchase a
complete 9 piece uniform kit (approximately $115). The kit includes 2 game
day jerseys, game day shorts, game day socks, 2 practice t-shirts, practice
shorts, and 2 pairs of practice socks. -- Sample sizes are on display at Mt.
Kisco Sports. -- Optional Castleford warm-up jackets and bags are available
for an additional cost.
TRYOUTS:
-- The last in-house soccer session will serve as our tryouts for
next years U8 teams. Only players that have been in our (BYSC) In-House and
Pre-Travel Program during the 2012-2013 year can be considered.
Our professional coaches will rank the players and determine travel
readiness.
IMPORTANT DATES:
-- Registration to be considered for next years U8 Developmental Travel
Program will open Tuesday, May 22 and remain open until midnight Saturday,
June 9. Only players entering 2nd. Grade in Fall 2012 or born between August
1, 2004 and July 31, 2005, can register for the U8 Developmental Travel
Program. Please go to the Castleford Rovers SC website at
http://castlefordrovers.org/ and click the Tryouts button on the left
hand side menu to register.
-- TEAM SELECTION NOTIFICATIONS will be made on Tuesday, June 12. Families
will have 24 hours to accept a position by registering and paying the full
$825 fee and uniform costs (non-refundable).
If you accept a position (by registering and making full payment) and then
decide to decline the spot, your child will not be invited to tryout the
following year. We cannot allow teams to fold because families later decline
a spot.
-- Tuesday, June 19th at 7PM there will be a mandatory meeting for
parents of Girls teams. Location will be sent with the team notification
email.
-- Wednesday, June 20th. 7PM there will be a mandatory meeting for
parents of Boys Teams. Location will be sent with the team notification
email. Not all players who want to participate in the U8 Developmental Travel
Program are guaranteed a spot. We hope to have ONE Boys U8 team and ONE Girls
U8 team from each town (Bedford and Armonk). There is a tryout process and
the professional coaches under the guidance of our Head Coach, Bob Martin,
will ultimately determine the make up of the teams, if we should even form a
team for this highly competitive travel league.
I cannot stress the following point enough: THIS OPTION IS FOR PLAYERS
(AND PARENTS) HIGHLY COMMITTED TO SOCCER. Playing for Castleford Rovers SC
requires great time and financial commitment. At this young age, this option
may be too early for many children. Another year in BYSC In-house / Pre-Travel
soccer may be the right choice for most children. This is a decision that
each family should make in the best interest of their child as children
develop on their own individual time line. Understandably, we are moving
very fast given the recent announcement.
I am sure that many of you will have questions. Our Castleford Rovers SC website
at http://castlefordrovers.org/ provides a wealth of information (including a
FAQ section). I will be available to answer any additional questions you may
have, just e-mail me your questions (bmolka@structuretone.com). Please understand
that at this time of registration and tryouts for over 700 players we probably
may not be able to answer all questions via email but, we will do our best.
Please go to our website and make every effort to be at the try-outs on the last
day of in-house. There will be representatives from BYSC and Castleford to answer
your questions. We would kindly ask that on that day you not direct your questions
to our trainers as they will be very busy on that day doing their evaluations of
your children.
